Know what fuels you

Every label
is talking.
Now you can
read it.

Scan a barcode, a label, a plate or a menu. Prano returns a score out of 100 that is actually yours — your goals, your allergies, your conditions are inside the arithmetic — plus the plain-English reason and something better to eat.

Personal to your profile Reproducible arithmetic Allergens checked for everyone

Barcode scans and allergen checks are free, forever. Prano Pro from $7.99/month with a 7-day free trial.

How it works

One scan.
Four answers.

Point the camera at anything edible. What comes back is not a traffic light and not a lecture — it is a number you can act on, and the reasoning behind it.

1Scan

Barcode, label, plate or menu

A packet has a barcode. A restaurant has a menu. A home-cooked plate has neither. Prano reads all four — barcode lookup, OCR on the nutrition panel, and vision on the food itself.

2Score

A number that is yours

The same jar of pasta sauce scores 78 for one person and 31 for another. Your goals, allergies and conditions are inputs to the calculation, not a disclaimer under it.

3Why

The reason, in plain English

The arithmetic produces the number. The AI writes the explanation underneath and never moves the number. Ask it anything, by typing or out loud — it already knows your profile and your last scan.

4Swap

Something better, on the same shelf

A score with no next step is trivia. Prano suggests alternatives that score higher for you specifically, and tells you what actually changes if you switch.

The score

Arithmetic,
not a vibe.

Prano's score is computed the same way every time from what the label actually says. It is reproducible, and it can be explained line by line.

0out of 100
Missing data is missing, never zero. Where a value is not declared, Prano estimates it from the ingredient list, says so, and lowers its own confidence.

Seven nutrients are weighted, then penalties compound at 0.85× because bad news stacks faster than good news. Then five structural caps stop a weighted average from quietly hiding a decisive problem:

An allergen on your profileScore 0
Conflicts with your stated dietMax 20
Industrial trans fatMax 30
One serving ≥80% of a daily ceilingMax 39
Ultra-processed (NOVA 4)Max 69
70 – 100

Good for you — fits your profile today.

40 – 69

Caution — fine occasionally, with something to know.

Below 40

Avoid — a real conflict with your profile.

The arithmetic floors at 1, never 0 — so 0 always means "this contains your allergen" and never "this is very sugary". If the most important signal in the app were also the signal for a fizzy drink, people would learn to ignore it.

See it in action

Shelf to answer,
in six screens.

Not a concept. These are the screens of the app going to the App Store — the same score, the same reasoning, the same swaps you will get on your phone.

The whole family

One scan.
Everyone’s answer.

You do not eat alone, and you do not shop only for yourself. Add the people you cook for and the same scan answers for all of them at once — because a loaf that is good for you can be the one thing your daughter cannot touch.

14 allergens, every scan, every person

Allergen checks are never limited and never behind the paywall, however many people you add. The result says it plainly: also contains milk, on Raj’s profile.

A different score for each person

The same pot of yogurt can be 88 for one person and 41 for another, and Prano shows you which input moved it. Free scores you and one other person; Pro scores up to six.

Change one profile, every score moves

Add an allergen or change a goal and every score recalculates — the new scans and the history behind them. Nothing is left showing an answer that is out of date.

Features

The rest of
what it does.

The score is the headline. Underneath it is an app you can actually live with — three ways to scan, an assistant that already has the context, and a habit of explaining itself.

Three ways to scan, and it says which one it used

A barcode is a database lookup, so it is unlimited and free. A nutrition label or a photo of your plate needs AI to read it, so free gets three a day and Pro removes the limit. The app tells you which you are spending before you spend it — no silent meter.

Ask it, or just say it

Ask Prano already knows your profile and the thing you just scanned, by typing or by voice. And the rule never changes: the arithmetic produces the number, the assistant writes the explanation underneath, and it never moves the number.

Learn as you go

Short explainers, a daily question and a decoder for the additive you just read off a packet. All free — knowing why is what makes the next scan unnecessary.

Insights that name names

Not just a weekly average: how much added sugar you actually dropped, the swaps you made, and the ingredients that keep reappearing. Pro adds the monthly view and splits it per person.

A better swap, on the same shelf

Alternatives that score higher for you, with the actual difference spelled out — not a generic “try wholegrain”.

Barcode scanning and allergen checks for everyone in your family cost nothing and always will. Pro is for the parts that run on AI — reading photos of labels and plates, and asking as much as you like — and for scoring the whole family.

Questions

Before you
download it.

Is it really free?

Barcode scans are unlimited and free, and so are allergen checks — for you and for everyone you add, however many that is. The free plan also includes 3 label or meal photo scans a day, personal scores for you and one other person, and 5 Ask Prano questions a day. There is no card to enter. Prano Pro — $7.99 a month or $59.99 a year, with a 7-day free trial — removes the photo and question limits, scores up to 6 people, and unlocks your full history and deeper analytics.

What makes the score mine rather than generic?

You tell Prano your goals, allergies, conditions and dietary style once. They are inputs to the arithmetic, not a disclaimer underneath it. The same jar of sauce can score 78 for one person and 31 for another, and Prano shows you exactly which input moved it.

Can I use it for my whole family?

Yes, and the part that matters for safety costs nothing. Add everyone you cook for and their allergens are checked on every single scan, free, however many people you add — the result says plainly also contains milk, on Raj’s profile. The personal 0–100 score is the part that is limited: free covers you and one other person, Pro scores up to six.

Does it work on restaurant food, not just packets?

Yes. Barcode, nutrition label, a home-cooked plate or a printed menu — Prano reads all four, and tells you what it could not see rather than guessing quietly. Barcode scans are unlimited; reading a photo takes an AI call, so the free plan includes three a day and Pro removes the limit.

Can I trust the number?

It is computed the same way every time from what the label actually says, and it can be explained line by line. Where a value is not declared, Prano estimates it, says so, and lowers its own confidence. The AI writes the explanation underneath; it never moves the number.

Can I rely on it for allergies?

No — and we would rather say so plainly. Prano flags allergens it can find on the label, but a label can be wrong and cross-contamination is not on the label at all. Always check the pack yourself.

What happens to my data?

Your scans, photos and conversations are yours. We do not sell personal information and we do not use your content to train third-party AI models. You can delete a single scan, or your whole account, from inside the app or at pranoapp.com/delete-account.
